May 2015 Rutherford Wine Experience

 

Kick off Summer 2015 with the Grand Launch of the

Rutherford Wine Experience!

On May 1st, 2nd and 3rd the Rutherford Appellation will launch a new annual event ~ the intimate, in-depth Rutherford Wine Experience, hosted by select Rutherford wineries and highlighting the wines of this premier Napa Valley appellation!!

You can personalize your Experience with the option to purchase a la carte tickets to individual events or an All-Inclusive pass ~ purchase a la carte tickets to the Friday Welcome Reception ($60 per person, 7pm-9pm), the Saturday tastings/seminars and luncheon ($150 per person, 10am-5pm, five options per morning and afternoon time blocks, and three Women Winemaker lunch options), or one of the two Sunday morning Brunches ($80 per person, 11am-1pm), or an all-inclusive Rutherford Enthusiast pass that will give you access to all of the events ($265 per person, a savings of $25 per person!). All ticket options are available for purchase now, and tickets will not be available on the weekend of the event.

  • Two Sunday Brunch options~ hosted by Mumm Napa Valley and Alpha Omega, each with 3 other Rutherford Appellation wineries pouring, 11am-1pm, $80/person (See below for complete list of wineries at each location.)

Start your Rutherford Wine Experience weekend with an elegant Welcome Reception hosted by the incredible Raymond Vineyards. The event will include appetizers created by Elaine Bell Catering, and feature Rutherford Appellation wines from Alpha Omega Winery, Foley Johnson Winery, Freemark Abbey Winery, Honig Vineyard & Winery, J. Moss Wines, Monticello Vineyards, Peju Winery, Piña Napa Valley, Raymond Vineyards, Round Pond Estate, St. Supéry Estate Vineyards and Winery, Sojourn Cellars, S.R. Tonella Cellars, Sullivan Vineyards, Tres Sabores Winery, and ZD Wines.

Foley Johnson A Day in the Dust with Brad Warner” (Limited to 20 participants) For years, Bill Foley and his wife, Carol Johnson Foley, had dreamt of opening a winery bearing their name in Napa Valley. With the launch of Foley Johnson in 2012, the Foleys have created a world-class winery with premier vineyards and a historic tasting room right in the heart of America’s preeminent winegrowing region. Foley Johnson exemplifies the understated elegance and casual warmth of the Valley.

Join renowned winemaker, Brad Warner, on an exploration of our property. Taste our award-winning wines featuring Bordeaux varieties from the Estate vineyards in Rutherford. Tour our property to learn about our estate history, vineyard management, winemaking processes, and cellaring practices.

Conn Creek Winery “Barrel Blending Seminar” (Limited to 12 participants) Winner of the international “Best of Wine Tourism” award and heralded by USA Today, Food & Wine, Sunset Magazine and others as one of “Napa Valley’s best tasting experiences,” Conn Creek Winery’s Barrel Blending Seminar is both educational and fun! A visit to Conn Creek is a tasting tour of the Napa Valley American Viticulture Areas (AVAs) in one stop. This is a unique opportunity to learn about, taste and blend your own wines from the many distinctive regions. You play winemaker for a day and take home the fruit of your labors - literally.

The seminar will include:

  • Napa Valley region overview led by a wine educator
  • Walk-around barrel tasting – 15 barrels of Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley’s distinctive AVAs, as well as Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot
  • Instructions on blending techniques and strategies
  • Bottling, corking and labeling your custom blend

Elizabeth Spencer Cabernet Appellation Tasting” (Limited to 16 participants) This in-depth tasting features five of our small production, vineyard-designated Cabernet Sauvignon produced from different Napa Valley sub-appellations. Discussion will be centered on the individual characteristics influenced by the micro-climate and terrain of each sub-appellation as expressed in each wine. In addition, this tasting features hand-selected artisan cheeses that pair well with the wines chosen.

Davie Piña / Frank Leeds “Vineyard Walkabout” (limited to 20 participants) ~ Rutherford Walkabout & River Front Wagdola Ride and Tasting hosted by Growers of the Year Davie Piña & Frank Leeds ~ ride through the vineyards along the Rutherford stretch of the Napa River in the Wagdola (wagon + gondola) with Davie Piña and Frank Leeds. Taste wines made from the vineyards that you are exploring and learn more about their viticultural philosophies and practices, and learn more about the 13-year river restoration program undertaken by the Rutherford Dust Society.

Women Winemaker Luncheon # 1, , Hosted by Tres Sabores Winery ~ (limited to 30 guests. Wineries and Women Winemakers attending and pouring: Julie Johnson from Tres Sabores Winery, Amy Aiken from Meander/Conspire Wines, and Anna Monticelli from Piña Napa Valley.

Women Winemaker Luncheon # 2, Hosted by Peju Winery ~ (limited to 30 guests). Wineries and Women Winemakers attending and pouring: Sara Fowler from Peju Winery, Domenica Totty from Beaulieu Vineyards (BV), and Jaime Dowell from Alpha Omega Winery.

Women Winemaker Luncheon # 3, Hosted by Honig ~ (limited to 30 guests). Wineries and Women Winemakers attending and pouring: Kristin Belair from Honig Vineyard & Winery, and Stephanie Putnam from Raymond Vineyards.

 

Sat. May 2nd 3-5pm Time Block

Raymond Vineyards “Library Tasting of Raymond Cabernet Sauvignon” (Limited to 12 participants) We will take you back in time by hosting an exclusive peek into the history of Raymond Vineyards Winemaking, with a library tasting where we will go back four decades of Cabernet Sauvignon. The stage where this enticing experience will unfold is the Red Room. This velvet-lined room, lit by Baccarat chandeliers, is the ultimate Napa Valley escape from the hustle and bustle of the world outside.

Sullivan VineyardsA Taste of History (Limited to 20 participants) Explore the history of Rutherford and the land that Sullivan Vineyards sits on. Followed by a history of Rutherford Vineyards, its wine making styles from old to new, and sample wines from each of its turning points.  You will taste wines from the late 90's, early 2000's and present day wines made under the direction of current wine makers Scott McCloud and Jeff Cole.

Provenance Vineyards Cabernet Blending Seminar” (Limited to 20 participants) Located in the heart of Rutherford, Provenance Vineyards is known for showcasing the unique personalities of Napa Valley’s best growing regions in each elegant and rich wine.  This exciting educational tour and tasting led by Winemaker Trevor Durling includes a property tour, barrel tasting, and comprehensive seminar on crafting your own Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon to enjoy at the winery!

Inglenook Terroir Tasting” (Limited to 12 participants) Enjoy breathtaking views of the Rutherford bench as you taste a barrel sample of wines produced from the vineyard block you are viewing.   Your host will discuss the unique terroir of the Inglenook property, which also includes an extensive and celebrated legacy. You will also have the opportunity to taste current releases.

 

Sun. May 3rd 11am-1pm Brunches

Brunch #1, Hosted by Mumm Napa (Limited to 50 participants) Wineries attending and pouring ~ Mumm Napa (host), ZD Wines, S.R. Tonella Cellars, and Conn Creek Winery Enjoy a delightful, traditional brunch with a French flair ~ You will be welcomed with a glass of Mumm Napa sparkling wine and a delicious selection of croissants, assorted muffins, and warm egg bagels with lox (Season's Best brined salmon, cream cheese, capers, red onion, and cucumber). Your meal will be complete with a chef-attended Buffet with savory French crepes two ways –spinach and mushrooms with gruyere & bacon and egg with sharp cheddar and chives, (plain crepes available by request), Applewood Smoked Bacon and Country Cottage Potatoes.

Brunch #2, Hosted by Alpha Omega Winery (Limited to 50 participants) Wineries attending and pouring ~ Alpha Omega Winery (host),Long Meadow Ranch Winery, Monticello Vineyards & Winery, and Talahalusi Vineyards Enjoy an elegant, country brunch featuring wine & food grown in Rutherford ~ Chef Stephen Barber of Farmstead at Long Meadow Ranch will serve a hearty, ingredient driven menu featuring organic produce grown at the LMR Rutherford Estate. Upon arrival you will enjoy local farm cheese, fruit, nuts, honeycomb and toast, as well as country ham sandwiches with pepper jelly, after which you will be treated to a sit-down brunch, served family-style, with a Salad of garden greens, LMR Red Flannel Hash with beets and pickled quail egg, hot, smoked wild California king salmon benedict with hollandaise and mâche, grilled and chilled delta asparagus, and assorted pastries.
